Finding the Sweet Spot
If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room, you don’t need a monster heater. A 400W to 600W lamp usually does the trick to keep you warm. But if you’ve got a master bath with soaring ceilings or a wide-open floor plan, you’ll probably want to bump that up to 800W or 1200W. Here’s the thing: if you put a high-powered lamp in a space that’s too small, the heat just bounces off the walls. The lamp starts clicking on and off constantly to keep up. That’s a great way to fry your filament way sooner than it should.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
The real secret to saving money is where you put the lamp. Instead of trying to warm up every cubic inch of air in the room, just aim the heat where you actually stand. Put it right above the shower or the vanity. It’s “spot heating.” You feel the warmth instantly on your skin, but you aren’t paying to heat the ceiling. High-wattage lamps feel great, but they’re hungry for power. If you’re updating an old house, be careful. Old wires aren’t always up for the task.
