
Keeping Your Industrial Infrared Heaters Dry (And Alive)
Water and industrial heaters don’t get along. Period. Whether it’s a stray splash or just a lot of condensation, moisture is usually what kills these systems. When water hits a scorching quartz tube or leaks into the electrical terminals, things go south fast. You get thermal shock or a short circuit, and suddenly your line is down. That’s why we built our heaters with an IPX5 rating. Basically, we wanted to stop those headaches before they even start.
What IPX5 actually means for you
In plain English, IPX5 means the unit can handle low-pressure water jets hitting it from any direction. We didn’t just slap a label on it; we sealed the junction boxes and used heavy-duty, moisture-resistant gaskets where the heater meets the chassis. It keeps the splash water away from the live wiring. But mist and fog? Those are trickier. They sneak through the tiniest gaps and settle as droplets right on the heating element. To fight that, we used specialized sealing rings and a housing shape that helps push fog away. If you let condensation build up on the tube, you get “cold spots.” Those spots lead to uneven heat, and eventually, the tube just cracks.
The trade-off: Heat vs. Water
We use high-purity quartz glass and reinforced seals so these things can take a beating in wash-down environments. They’re tough. But here’s the thing: when you seal something this tight to keep water out, you also trap heat inside. If you’re putting a high-wattage unit in a tight spot, you’ve got to make sure your ventilation is on point. If the air isn’t moving, your internal components are going to bake—no matter how waterproof the shell is.
Less time fixing, more time running
Most standard heaters die because the contact points corrode. It’s a slow death. By locking out the moisture, we stop that oxidation from happening in the first place. It means you aren’t spending your afternoon swapping out dead lamps. You just let the machines run. Plus, if your voltage and wattage match, these are usually a simple drop-in replacement for whatever you’re using now.
