
Stop Fighting Ozone in Your Fab
Let’s be honest: cleaning up after your equipment is the worst part of the job. In semiconductor manufacturing, we’re all pushing for zero emissions. But if you’re using standard IR lamps or convection ovens, you’ve probably noticed a nagging problem. Those lamps hit the 185-254nm range, which basically turns the air in your cleanroom into an ozone factory. Ozone is a nightmare. It eats away at your circuitry and forces your HVAC scrubbers to work overtime just to keep the air breathable. It’s a constant battle.
Killing the Ozone at the Source
We decided to stop treating the symptom and just fix the cause. By using specialized quartz filters and keeping a tight grip on the filament temperature, we shift the emission spectrum. We basically chop off the VUV (Vacuum Ultraviolet) range entirely. The result? You still get all the heat you need to cure resins or dry photoresists, but you don’t get the nasty chemical byproduct. It’s a cleaner process because it’s built that way from the start, not because you slapped some expensive filters on the end of the line.
Heat Where You Actually Need It
Convection heating is a bit like trying to warm up a single pea by heating the entire kitchen. It’s a waste of energy. Our IR lamps are different. They hit the substrate directly. It’s fast. Really fast. And that means your drying station can be much smaller. One heads-up, though: high-intensity IR is powerful. If your substrate is on the thinner side, it can warp if you aren’t careful. You’ll want to spend a little time dialing in your conveyor speed and lamp distance to make sure you’re getting the throughput you want without stressing the material.
Plugging It In
The best part? These are drop-in replacements. You don’t need to rewire your whole floor; they run on your existing industrial power. And since you aren’t dealing with ozone anymore, your lamp housings don’t need to be made of those over-engineered, heavy-duty corrosion-resistant materials. That saves you a decent chunk of change on your chassis costs over time. Just do me a favor: check your reflector alignment every six months. It only takes a minute, and it ensures your heat stays uniform across the wafer.
